Dr. Dave Wilson

Dr. Dave Wilson got his Ph.D. in Medicinal Biochemistry from Baylor College in 1996. Currently, at UC Davis he is teaching MCB 123, MCB 211 and MCB 120L. Dr. Wilson's research interests arestructural biology of enzymes and protein-protein interactions. His projects include protein engineering of enzymes involved in a xylose assimilation (XXX) pathway, structure- and combinatorial-based drug design targeting apicomplexan parasitic infection and characterizing the structure and function of WD-repeat domains in protein-protein interaction. His primary research tool is x-ray crystallography but he usually complements this with biochemical and genetic experiments.

Muhammad Hagras

Muhammad Hagras earned his Bachelor of Science in pharmacy from university of Ain Shams, Cairo, Egypt in 2001. Afterwards, he pursued a different path where he won two different scholarships to study information technology, mainly computer programming, for two years from 2001 to 2003 and then worked in IBM Egypt as a software developer from 2003 to 2005. Then he lead a more academic career where he earned his Master of Science in pharmaceutical and chemical sciences program from University of the Pacific, Stockton, CA from 2006 to 2010. Finally he joined the Doctor of Philosophy program at the biophysics department, University of California, Davis, CA in 2010.
Dr. Larry Morand

Dr. Larry Morand earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the Department of Biochemistry at Purdue University in 1989. Currently, he is a Continuing Lecturer in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology (MCB) at UC Davis, teaching the upper division laboratory course, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, MCB 120L. Also, he has a second appointment as the Academic Coordinator for the three upper division teaching labs in MCB: Genetics, MCB 160L; Cell Biology, MCB 140L; and MCB120L already mentioned. His research interests prior to teaching was involved structure-function relationships of photosynthetic electron transport catalysts, structure and regulation of phytochromes, and regulation of acyltransferase activities.
Dr. Charles Bamforth

Dr. Charles Bamforth or also known as the “Pope of Foam” is an Anheuser-Busch Endowed Professor of Malting and Brewing Sciences at UC Davis. He received his Ph.D in the University of Hull, United Kingdom in 1977 and has been teaching at UC Davis since 1999. Some of you might know him from taking one of his classes, but outside of school he is known for his films on beer. He starred in an award-winning documentary “The Art and Science of Beer,” which won a Taste Award for Best Mini-Film or Documentary on January 14, 2014.
Currently, Dr. Bamforth’s research program focuses primarily on the wholesomeness of beer, including studies on the psychophysics of beer perception, on polyphenols and on the residues from non-starchy polysaccharide digestion that constitute soluble fiber and potential prebiotics in beer. His research in the laboratory also embraces the enzymology of the brewing process such as foam stability, preventing oxidation in wort and beer, and alternative paradigms for beer production.
