We are bringing back our member spotlights dedicated to you, our members! We at ASBMB value our members, and we hope to build a more connected community with these member spotlights.
April 2019
As April comes to an end, we are featuring our Member Spotlight for the month!
Meet Caleb Cole:
Year: 1st year
Major: Biochemistry & Molecular Biology
Goals: His current short-term goal is to find research opportunities for the upcoming academic year. His long-term goal is to head over to medical school possibly specializing in neurology or radiology!
Hometown: Redlands, CA (it’s about a 15-min drive from Riverside, CA)
What brings him to Davis? Caleb knew he wanted to go to a UC school and was most impressed with our campus because of the many great professors and research opportunities here at UC Davis!
Why did he join ASBMB? He joined ASBMB to learn more about the biochemistry community and meet other students on campus who are in this wonderful field.
What does he look forward to most in ASBMB this year? Caleb looks forward to attending one of our lab tours coming up this spring quarter and learning more about the behind-the-scenes of research.
Fun Fact: He owns a drone, which he uses for taking pictures and videos of places around his hometown like Palm Springs!

As March comes to an end, today we are featuring our Member Spotlight for the month! Meet Madison Hall:
Year: 1st year
Major: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Goals: She is currently looking for an internship this summer, or perhaps a lab position this year. Keeping up her grades is absolutely her priority.
Hometown: Madison grew up in the Bay Area. She moved to Seattle and lived there for 7 years before coming to Davis!
What brings her to Davis? Madison sought out a school big enough to have sports team. Here at Davis, she actively competes in Taekwondo!
Why did she join ASBMB? She joined ASBMB to meet people, get involved in the community, and find opportunities such as research projects.
What has she gained from being a member of ASBMB? Madison became more aware of research around campus. She discovered different types of research that she wouldn’t expect.
Fun Fact: She had Girl Scout camp in the summer!
Madison is a nice person and we learned that she is very talented in what she does!

As February comes to an end, we would like to introduce Mikaela Pham for our Member Spotlight of the month!
Major: She currently majors in Comparative Literature, but she is planning to switch and double major in Biotechnology and Design!
Goals: At a Leonardo Art Science Evening Rendezvous (LASER) talk here at UC Davis, Mikaela was inspired by a presentation given by Dr. Vega on her research involving beauty technology!
Hometown: She is from Romania! Her family moved to Romania before she was born. She also lived in Vietnam for a few years.
What brings her to Davis? Mikaela visited California with her dad, and she liked it here!
Why did she join ASBMB? After she saw the LASER presentation, she was strongly inspired to pursue STEM. She joined ASBMB to help her make that decision.
What has she gained from being a member of ASBMB? She liked the LinkedIn Workshop, found it to be very inspiring and helpful. She was able to be more involved and join other clubs when she improved her LinkedIn profile.
Fun Fact: Mikaela speaks 4 languages: English, French, Romanian, and Vietnamese!

Our Member Spotlight for January is Sarah Sheridan! Here are some details about her:

Hometown: Lincoln, CA
Reason for coming to UC Davis: Growing up, she heard many great stories about Dr. Petr Janata, a professor studying the psychology of music, who she really admired and hoped to meet.
Reason for joining ASBMB: Recently, biochemistry had brought a spark in her interests and she has thought about switching her major to Biochemistry! She decided to join ASBMB to learn more about biochemistry and find opportunities to be involved in the field. In addition, she looks forward to meeting her peers who share this common interest.
Fun Fact: She’s in a lab by Dr. Jennifer Whistler, which is focused on the search for safer opioids to be used in hospitals.
