Neurology/Engingeering
UCD Medical Center, Department of Neurology, Research 1 Building

We are looking for a student research assistant with an engineering mindset to help develop an antiepileptic device. The project requires working with rodents (adult rats) and involves establishing a setup that can effectively deliver drug aerosols for inhalation. Basic laboratory experience is a must and will be confirmed (e.g., preparation of solutions, pHing, weighing, etc.); prior experience in animal husbandry a plus. Depending on the student’s performance, the project may be expanded into other areas of our research (e.g., drug testing). Student must commit to a minimum of 6 months with 2 work days per week of a minimum of 3 hrs each. Please note that the location of the internship is the Sacramento Medical Center (can be reached via hourly UCDMC shuttle).

Responsibilities
Rat husbandry. Development of an aerosol delivery system by connecting an inhaler with a restraint cone.

Plant Molecular Biology & Biochemistry Internship
Duration: summer | UC Davis Department of Vegetable Crops, Davis, CA


An internship is available in a plant molecular biology and biochemistry lab. The projects involve the characterization of transgenic plants.


The research will involve the following techniques
  • RNA and DNA isolation.
  • Reverse-Transcription PCR and PCR.
  • Measuring carbohydrates.
  • Making plant physiological measurements
  • Purification and microscopic evaluation of starch.

Health Programs Intern
Sacramento LGBT Community Center

The Sacramento LGBT Community Center’s empowers community members with meaningful health program internship opportunities that support the LGBT community and community at large. We are looking for student interns who want to invest time and expertise in their community center as well as gain valuable work experience. Interns must be willing to dedicate a set number of weekly hours to participation in health program work as well as participate in the mandatory training and orientation process for the organization. Through the health program, interns have the opportunity to give back and work toward solving the challenges and health disparities facing the LGBT population. A set project for the semester will be determined prior to a starting date that fits the needs of both the LGBT Community Center and the interests of the participating student.

Responsibilities
  • Preparation of program outreach and education material
  • LGBT health specific research compilation and interpretation
  • Resource compilation for community members
  • Assistance with grant writing and data compilation
  • Participation in community presentations and events
  • Health event planning
  • Basic clerical work and data entry

Qualifications
Our center will gladly welcome any students from the Freshman to graduate level in any discipline or major. Students must be able to comfortably interact with the LGBT community during in-person encounters in highly sensitive situations.
